Re: William Lotspeach - Quantrill Guerrilla

Hi, thanks for responding. I love this site it is easy to
get around and there is always lively informed discussions.
I ususally put scalping stories with the stories about
the ritualistic slaying of Christian children by Jews. It is always, "well-known" and "well documented" and of course is NEVER either. There was a scalping story at the
Lexington/Concord Battle. It is funny that you should mention "hanging". My son's ancestor in the 45th was
Lafayette Teters. After the war he was constable in his
town there. In 1883 he killed a man in a shoot-out. A
little while later( nobodyever says how little a while)
Lafe was found hanging in his own barn by his son. Faced
with a fait acompi they had to consider that he mayhave
committed suicide. I WILL NEVER GO THERE. There is no way
I will ever accept that. It is my view that the cousins
or friends of the man he killed were waiting for him
inside the barn, they jumped him and hanged him in retaliation for their friend. I live in San Diego since
1948 when I was nine. The Ashford's (my maiden name) were
considered the bad boys of Brownwood Texas. When I was
12 I saw my grandfather who was from Tennessee take a
bull-whip to my uncle and father, these men had to be in
theri esarly thirties. So I have some idea how mean a
southern male can be. Would put NOTHING past them. There
is not the leasst doubt in my mindd but that that is what
happened. There was some mention that it might have been
remorse for the death of the fellow he shot. Remorse?
Remorse? It was a fair fight why would he feel remorse?
We don't know much about his service activity but he
must have seen plenty especially in the morass of misrule
they called Missouri. lol Please do not think I am putting down southerner nothing could be further from the truth
The Catholice say if they have a child for 7 yrs theyhave
him for life.. Texas is like that, you never never forget
Texas. And there is admiration for their toughness that
comes through. I love the civil war and Stonewall Jackson
is my absolute favorite Generel. He had some bad southern
boys with him didn't he. I am not a fan of Forrest and the
other geurillas. They were just having an excuse to raise
hell and they did not change the outcome of the war by
one iota. Of course they drove Sherman and Grant crazy
but it didn't alter a thing they did. The war was over
when Atlanta fell to Sherman.in 1864. But it was hard to see.
The north went from strength to strength and the poor
south just never caught up. I will stop running at the
mouth and let you get a word in edgewise. Thanks again
for the report. I never get enought of the civil war or
genealogy and am retired and so do as I please.
