79 EMM & Montgomery's EMM

Hello,
Does anyone have information about the 79 EMM (Union) (seems to have three companies A-F)? Was A raised from a specific county? I have several pension applications from soldiers who say they served in the 79 EMM, but most of them do not show up with a service record at the Soldiers and Sailors search site.

Also, anyone know anything about Montgomery's Company EMM (the pensioners say Capt Alfred or Alford Montgomery and Lt Dabney Coper or Cober but I don't find a service record for them....seems raised from Bollinger County) or Capt John R. Cochran's Company EMM (also seems mainly made up of Bollinger County men, and lots of people applied for pension as veterans of this company but very few were approved). What were the responsibilities of men in these EMM units? Were they required to enroll, perhaps to prove their loyalty to the Union, but given little or no duties as soldiers? Some of them are very indignant that they were turned down for pensions.

Thanks, I hope someone can help.
Cynthia
