I find your comments on Rose Hill and the Civil War very interesting. Thank you.

I stumbled on this site while researching info on my 2nd greatgrandfather George A Chamblin and his involvement in the Civil War. George was born in Rose Hill in 1844. After his parents died in 1861, he went to school in Pleasant Hill, Cass County, Mo., but trouble with the jayhawkers caused him to head home in 1862. In a biography of George A Chamblin it says "He started South, and enlisted in a company of two hundred, reached St. Charles County, Mo., and had a skirmish with a party of Union soldiers. The company got scattered, and with others Mr. Chamblin was captured by an Iowa regiment and taken to Clinton, Mo." The story goes on to name the different prisons he was taken to. After going from prison to prison he was part of a prisoner exchange. He then enlisted in the sixteenth Missouri Infantry C.S.A. He was made Orderly-Sergeant at Helena.

There is no mention of which unit he served with when he was involved in that skirmish in St. Charles County. My question for you is: The company of 200, were they a Confederate regiment or a rebel group? Two hundred seems a bit large of a rebel group.
