The Morgan Co. Historical Society owns a picture of the local 50th reunion for combined vets of the War Between the States, but he isn't in that picture.
Dr. Orsigno Williams (born 1835-died 1904)
I have he was conscripted as a surgeon at 19 yrs. of age and learned his trade while amputating limbs. He had worked with a physician before this time (sort of an apprenticeship) and then he went to medical school in St. Louis after the war. The balance of his siblings were given 80 acres of land, but his medical schooling was his inheritance. He died of pneumonia and was buried at the Versailles City Cemetery.
His father, Daniel Williams born 1809 in PN, 52 yrs. old, went along with his son to the Confederacy. He was taken as a POW of the Union Army and released when they were certain he'd die. He was nursed back to health by his wife and lived until 1881 and died at the age of 72. (buried at Big Rock Cemetery, along with 4 of Orsigno's siblings. (Phebe, John, Isabel, & Mary)
Orsigno's mother was Mary McLaughlin (b. 1816), dau. of Daniel & Isabel Drummond McLaughlin. She was born in Ireland.
Orsigno & his wife, Lucy Miller Williams, had a son Fred who had twelve chldren. After the death of Orsigno's first wife, he marr. Alpha Davis and had 8 more children, two became physicians and another a dentist in Versailles and Tipton. One of the girls married a physician and another a local store owner/railroad tie buyer.
