Terry, it is very interesting Robert M. Renick did not appear to have a "Loss of Estate", as did your ancestor. Robert appears to have been very well connected, as he is mentioned in William T. Sherman's "Memoirs of General W. T. Sherman". When Sherman was in St. Louis seeking reinforcements, he met with R. M. Renick "at the Planters' House" and inquired where he could find General Fremont. (General Fremont describes their conversation in great length.) Perhaps his connections worked in his favor. Please contact me sandrastark2q.com
