Goodness Jim, that O.R. entry shows no such thing--clearly or otherwise. The entry in the O.R. you reference does not mention the 3rd MSM. What it does reference is that in April 1865 ONE member of the 68th ENROLLED MISSOURI MILITIA--William T. Leeper--was cooperating closely with the 7th Kansas Cavalry and 17th Illinois Cavalry. The 3rd MSM Militia Cavalry was in north Missouri being mustered out at the time and had not been based out of SEMO since the previous year. The O.R. entry you refer to mentions William Leeper, who had been booted out of the 3rd MSM for incompetance over a full year prior to that entry you reference. Leeper was a Radical, while the 3rd MSM was a Conservative unit. Not long prior to Leeper getting the ax, the c.o. of the 3rd MSM was going on record that Leeper's personal animosities were getting the better of his military judgement, and Leeper soon after was shown the door. Being a free agent, he was required to enroll in the EMM, which he did in April 1864, just a few days after getting kicked out of the MSM. As a member of the 68th EMM Leeper was serving as guide to other units that were based in SEMO long after the 3rd MSM had departed. To say that an ex-member of a regiment serving as guide for another unit constitutes clear cooperation between the old and new units would be akin to stating that the 2nd U.S. Cavalry "clearly cooperated" with the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia by virtue of the fact that Robert E. Lee had previously served in the one unit and later served in the other unit.
