Re: List of Quantrill's men at Prairie Grove

Frank James was there, at Hogeye, which is a few miles east of Prairie Grove, federal cavalry had Gen Shelby and his staff trapped and had given them a few minutes to surrender. Shelby was mulling over his options, when all of a sudden in rode Frank James and a large bunch of Quantrill's men. They scattered the federal cavalry numbering about Seventy-five and saving Shelby and his staff's "bacon". After this incindent, from that time on Gen Shelby always held Frank James in high reguard. After Jessie's death and Frank was brought in for trial of all his misdeeds. Gen J.O. Shelby showed up at the trial (drunk) as a character witness for Frank James. He rambled on and on about what a great man Frank was. As we know Frank was acquitted. The trial took place in Gallatin, Mo and a half block from a bank the James Gang had robbed.
