John Reed Cochran born 1826 in Pennsylvania (? son of John (b 1794) and Margaret Cochran of Allegheny, Pennsylvania not proven) married Rhoda Newkirk (b: 26 Apr 1834, Beaver Pennsylvania, daughter of Shipman and Jane (nee Thompson) Newkirk on 15 Sep 1854. There is a BLM land grant certificate issued 10 Sep 1859 for him in the Jackson land office for property in Bollinger County. (Section Twp Range Meridian Counties: 23 31-N 9-E 5th PM Bollinger )

After the war Cochran and family moved to Randol Twsp, Cape Girardeau County and it appears John died sometime bet 1880 and 1890. He does not appear in the vet census of 1890. His wife died bet 1920 and 1930. No death certificate for her has been found. They had several children including Missouri B Cochran who taught school for many years at Randol School. She never married and died at Deal Nursing Home in Jackson, Missouri in 1950.
