Dear Anne: I am sending this note of condolence at the expense of extending your bereavement. For that I apologize, however the news of Rick's passing did not reach me until recently. Rick and I met eachother in the Crane Hall dormatory, while attending the University of Wyoming. We remained close friends until our graduation in 1980. I had not seen him until receiving his telephone call a couple of years ago. It was good to hear he had settled in the Memphis area as a college professor; and, most importantly, that he had found love and was living a good life. Although I had not seen him in over thirty years, I retain some connections with him. My house is near his childhood home in Grandview, MO, and I periodically drive past it on Robinson Pike Road. It was sad to see that the home had burned to a total loss a few years past. My law practice has also taken me to the courthouse in Lexington, MO. I will take a deliberate trip in the near future to visit the museum that was so important to him, and find the memorial he had written. I shall also purchase the books he had written on the civil war. While in college, he spoke frequently of a civil war novel he was writing. He wanted to title it "Band of Brothers". When he spoke of his novel, he liked to play "Arrival" by the group ABBA. A few weeks ago, I listened to that oldie for the first time in almost three decades. There are some people who make a lasting impression. I am fortunate to have had Rick as a friend so long ago. I am saddened by hearing the news of his passing. May you find comfort in knowing that he significantly touched the lives of others, and that he is resting eternally in God's arms. Sincerely, Phil Zuspan
