Les and Bill,

A new book that has a concise three-page history of Colonel Charles Samuel Mitchell's 8th Missouri Infantry Regiment from that border region is James E. McGhee's 2008 "Guide to Missouri Confederate Units, 1861-1865" on pages 210-214. McGhee's standard treatment of each unit in his work is a short list of the command and staff and then company commanders with dates and short remarks along with counties in which different companies were recruited. McGhee follows this with a few paragraphs giving a short history of the campaigns and battles in which the regiment served. McGhee ends each unit history with a bibliography of sources he used for his information given alphabetically by author's last name. Banasik's book is the first of ten sources listed in the bibliography of the 8th. If you don't wish to purchase this helpful book, you could view it via Interlibrary Loan through your local library for a slight fee (at mine it is about $4.00 each book).
