I am studying my family's history and have slammed into a brick wall concerning my great, great, great, great, great grandfather. I am hoping that someone within this site might have access to information that might assist in my search. My ancestor's name is Johnson McCormmach (have also seen spellings of McCormack, Mccomic, Mccormach). His date of birth is 07/06/1806 in Virginia (I have no county currently). He moved to Flynn's Lick in Jackson County, Tennessee when he was young. Once married and producing a family, he moved to Missouri. I have census records showing him in Webster, Montgomery and Pike Counties. One of his sons is Russell McCormack, and I have a copy of his Civil War Pension Application and verification that he was in the 8th MO Cavalry mustered in at Springfield, MO.

Here is the tricky part. During all my research, I was never able to locate that Johnson McCormack had enlisted in the Civil War. However, I now have a copy of an excerpt from a book stating that both Russell and Johnson had enlisted in the same 8th MO Cavalry during the Civil War. Would anyone be able to help me with this? The excerpt was apparently donated by an ancestor of Johnson, but not from my particular branch so I have not been able to locate said individual. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much for your time!

Census verification of having lived near Marshfield, MO. in Webster County, before MO was in Flynn's Lick, Jackson County, Tennessee. Also have a census with Montgomery County, MO. listed on it, but no other tangible record of residence within that county....all other evidence has been pointing to Pike County instead. Both of these counties are next to one another, just outside St. Louis.
