Interesting...

I suspect this is your guy... http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/soldiers/details.asp?id=S417284&conflict=Civil%20War&txtName=Thomasson&selConflict=Civil%20War&txtUnit=&rbBranch=all#

Per Jim McGhee's pivotal work "Guide To Missouri Confederate Units" Pg 164

"Woodson's Company was also known as Co A 1st Missouri Cav. Regt. and served in Virginia." He then goes on to explain that the unit really was never actually connected with the Regiment. It was made up of exchanged Missourians who found themselves in Virginia at time of exchange in late 1863.

So is it the fellow from Scott County mentioned in the above posting? Most likely see : http://www.sos.mo.gov/TIF2PDFConsumer/DispPDF.aspx?fTiff=/archives/AdjutantGeneral/Civil_War/ServiceCards/s739/2920.tif&Fln=S417287.pdf

So it appears we have a well traveled young man who enlisted in the Missouri State Guard at age 19, transfered to the 6th Missouri Infantry, was captured at Fort Gibson. Sent as a prisoner first to Alton IL then to Virginia, exchanged, served with Co. A of Woodsons Cavalry and was paroled at Winchester, Virginia at wars end. I suspect he ended up staying in Virginia, married and thus his widow filed for a pension upon his death.

Woodson's unit was very active and took part in a number of encounters. There is a memorial marker dedicated to Woodson's Hero's on the New Market Battlefield, see this link for a photo of the marker erected in1905 by 2 of the unit survivors at their own expense. Who knows Thomasson may have been one of the two if he was in Virginia. http://www.civilwaralbum.com/misc/newmarket1.htm#top

To add meat to the bone he is found in the 1870 Census with his wife Susan having been married in December of 1869. They are making their home as a Farm laborer and domestic in the household of Timothy Kendrick in Luray, Page Co, Virginia.

He is also found in 1920 age 81 still with wife Mary Sue age 74 in Prince William Co Va with a son Thomas A Thomasson born 1897 in Virginia.

There are two published but unsourced family trees for Thomas Archie Thomasson, both have him married to Mary Susan Cubbage 14 Dec 1869 in Virginia, One has him born 1840 in Mississippi the other born 1843 in Scott County Missouri. the 1870 Census lists his native state as Missouri. The 1920 census Mississippi. Both identify Nathanial L Thomasson as being his father.
