Chip Culpepper and others have identified the dead from the Battle of Iuka that are buried in the trench at Shady Grove Cemetery. At the time they were buried, there were 162 bodies prepared for burial before the Battle of Iuka. These were found behind the Methodist Church. We took several list, sifted the National Archives and Footnote.com to come up with the names of the 99 found dead on the battle field and 4 more who died between 19 September and 1 October 1862 when the grave was closed. The two list you have found and a list I am preparing of men of 4 Cavalry regiments who were fighting dismounted at Iuka, Corinth and Hatchie Bridge, the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 27th (1st Tx Legion), who died in the reagon. Some day the archives will be searchable. I suggested that when Footnote was starting to do soldier records, but they chose to stay with a record format. Another reply suggest 200 graves in the boundaries of Iuka were moved to Shady Grove. I wonder how many Confederates are buried at Shady Grove and who they are. We anyway, lets keep looking.
