ELKIN, THOMAS SGT 3RD MO CAV BN DOW CORINTH (IUKA, MS) 11/1/1862 POW

This one is my great uncle. Can't locate his grave. Do you know where he is buried? He was from Lowndes Co, MS but moved to the St Joseph, Mo area in 1858 or so and enlisted in the cavalry there. Family legends says he came "home" but also that he refused to come home as he was ashamed of having lost his leg. "Home" could be Rochester Mo or Lowndes Co Ms? Any help would be appreciated.
