Re: Fayette Fight/Bloody Bill's motivation

The relationship some of these soldiers have, for example:Cliftons cousins, from northern Clay County, Rice, Peter, and Franklin Holtzclaw, (were part of the 3rd Mo.Volunteer Calvary ). They have two great grandmothers, who are James. Their grandfather Archibald Holtzclaw's mother was Catherine ( Caty) James. Their grandmother Miriam Hitt ( Heite ) Holtzclaw's mother was Sarah James. Many were probably related through blood, or marriage. All Holtzclaw's descend from 1714,Virginia, immigrant Hans Jacob Holtzclaw. All Hitt, Heite, Hite's descend from 1714,Virginia, immigrant Peter Hitt . Jesse, and Franks uncle was George Heite (Hitt, Hite,) from Kentucky. He was married to their dads sister. If not Bloody Bills family, it was some of his mens family! Especially Holtzclaw's. The James farm was just a few miles east of the Holtzclaw,s , now part of Smithville Lake, Clay County. I have been told my grandmothers Catherine James, and Sarah James, are sisters? I do know Sarah's parents are John and Dinah James. I have also been told Catherine, and Sarah had a brother William James, who is Frank, and Jesse's great grandfather? The murder of James (Holtzclaw) Holsclaw, Cliftons dad certainly made them angry ! Hitt, and Holtzclaw, are the original americanized spellings of these German names (since 1714). They are my 6th, and 7th, great-grandparents.
