Re: Howard Co. POW's
In Response To: Howard Co. POW's ()

I found records in the Miscellaneous Confederate Compiled Service Records on footnote.com for John T. Scotten (10 pages) and David Sardin (1 page). It appears both were taken prisoner during Price's Raid somewhere in the vicinity of Ft. Scott.

John T. Scotten was also taken as a prisoner from Douglas' Regiment and taken to Gratiot Street prison. There are several pages of his "examination" dated February 6, 1865. He says he is 42 years of age, from Howard County, and he surrendered at Fort Smith, AR on November 4, 1864 because he had been conscripted by Colonel Douglas and three men who came to his house about the 15th day of October 1864.

David Sardin, Private in Douglas' Regiment, was admitted to the USA General Hospital at Fort Scott on December 23, 1864 with Smallpox and returned to duty (sent to guard house as pow) on January 18, 1865.
