Just off the top of my head, I seem to recall from reading that the camp you are referring to was near Leeton in south-central Johnson County, and it was the camp of some of the several Confederate recruiters there in August 1862 during the big recruiting drive that figured in the Lone Jack battle on 16 August.

I pulled my little Johnson County book off the shelf and on page 50 I see: "On August 10 about one hundred Johnson and Henry County men assembled near present-day Leeton in south-central Johnson County and were sworn into Confederate service four days later." (The endnote says this came from Kathleen White Miles, "Bitter Ground: The Civil War in Missouri's Golden Valley, Clinton, Missouri: The Printery, 1971, page 112). Sadly, The Printery is no longer in business, from what I understand.

Keith, is this what you recall about southerners at the intersection of Henry, Benton, Johnson, and Pettis Counties? If not, perhaps I can do better.
