This is very interesting- what a plethora of resources. You are right about making no assumptions when names overlap. The Bill Wilson of Phelps county who is well known does not seem to be the one who operated in Morgan County with Jobe and Hinton. The William R. Wilson who was Paddy Mulllins' uncle lived in Morgan County in section 29/44/17 in the woods straddling the Moreau Creek south of Fortuna. (In what document did I read that these woods were understood by the federal authorities in Tipton to be a hideout for the guerrillas?) This Wilson was dead by 1867, when his remaining land was being sold by administrator. I have not found either of his sons, Ephraim or John R. (or T.) in a census after 1860 and wondered if they could have been part of the Wilson gang. Thanks for your time.
