Thanks for your inputs. This adds a little bit more to the answer and the puzzle. So there was a John McCoy in this Regiment and company but is buried in another cemetery across the South. And given the regiment number this is most likely the second Union soldier buried in this Confederate cemetery. Is it possible this is a father or relative? How would I find records about Pittsville Missouri before and after the war to see if another J McCoy was there before and not afterwards?
