[late August] I was elected Col without opposition, Dr. Caldwell had become a great favorite of the men became Lt Col and Cummings as Major-His rival being Col Warner Lewis. My captains were L M Lewis Herrell, Allison, etc.

Hindman ordered Tracy into camp with his command and he refused. Maj Warner Lewis was ordered to Tracy’s camp to relieve him of command and bring in the command. Tracy turned command over to him, who was able to bring in control only a part of the men, which he brought in, and I believe turned over to Col Hunter to enable him to organize a Regt, which took place 9/15.
