I have wondered about that possibility also, but OR, Series 1, Volume 41, Part 1, Page 641 which shows the Organization of Price's Army actually list Coleman's unit as the 46th. I understand this was part of the order that Price issued at Pocahontas just before crossing into Missouri, so I have assumed that Coleman stayed with the 46th until the raid actually began and then began assembling an new unit and left Crabtree in command of the 46th.
