Re: New Info Steamer "Pitcairn" Mar 65

Bruce,
In all the files I have on Missouri River steamers (over 1500 of them), the PITCAIRN is not one of them! (at least hadn't been until now!) Is there a website where I can gain access to the Official Records which you cited? Meanwhile, I might suggest that there may be a record for that boat at the Herman T. Pott Inland Waterways Library, a section of the Mercantile Library, UMSL. Also, local/regional newspapers of the day might have reported such an incident. Unfortunately, Way's Directory, while excellent, is not all-inclusive. I've documented many Missouri boats that are not in Way's.

This is a very interesting subject for me, and I would appreciate very much if you would e-mail me directly with any further information you find on this boat. Also, could they have made a mistake in the name of the boat? (I do have a PARAGON on the Mo. in 1865, but it is not listed in Way's either! I don't have enough specific info about that boat to say it "might" have been in Waverly on the date you mentioned!) Meanwhile, I will make it a point to "look into the matter"...(always "new" information coming to light...sometimes in unexpected places! lol)

Regards,
Maggie
