The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Soldiers killed at Centralia

I guess I'm missing something here--is it being suggested that executions of prisoners are okay if soldiers are unarmed when taken? I really like the Clint Eastwood line. Absolutely loved the movie. Or that executing prisoners, "yanky" or Rebel, was okay if they were armed when taken. Before answering, go ahead and take this particular discussion over to the views board where it belongs since it has nothing to do with scholarship and everything to do with opinion.

Here is a query that might belong on this board regarding carrying while on leave since it relates to scholarship--how many of you fellows who served in Vietnam took your M16 or M60 to Saigon when you were there on leave? Or even a 45. Not on duty in Saigon--on leave. I believe there was a policy in this regard, just as there was in Missouri, but let's hear about your walking around Saigon, on leave, while toting rifles. And if you did not, did it have something to do with being subject to arrest if you had carried?
