He served under quantrill and was a guerrilla leader that according to some union reports that took over command of some of Anderson's men in '64.., according to some Jim was his brother..I believe that Larry Woods book "Other Noted Guerrillas of Civil War Missouri". Has a whole chapter dedicated to Mart Ryder and also mentions Jim..
