Just a note on first name initials in the 1860 census. The use of just the first name initial was widespread in the 1860 census and not just in Missouri. I found so many of my Thomas, Callahan, Van Hoozer relatives listed just by first initial as well. May have been in the instructions to use first initial only. Haven't looked into it but even in Tennessee, the used the first inital.
