Dear Brad,

Got your message. My grandfather wrote a historical novel which seems loosely based on the experiences of John Cochran's VMM, in which his own father served as a private. I then added as much of the actual historical context as I could. I self-published a limited number of copies for my family and have thought about offering the book on a wider basis but would have to first consult with a descendant of a person on whom one of the book's characters seems to be based. I would want this person's OK before proceeding.

But as for the historical information itself, I probably could give you some help. For instance, you can compile rosters of the men in Cochran's units from information on the Missouri Secretary of State's Web site. You also can find other relevant information posted on this Web site, if you search for Cochran. Also, Kirby Ross has posted on this message board The Memoir of Pvt. Albert J. Martin, a private in one of Cochran's companies who was captured by Gen. Sterling Price's men. It makes for some fascinating reading.

If I can be of help, let me know. At present, I don't have copies of the book available, but that could change.

Best wishes,

George Williams
