Andrew J. Morton, age 19, Private, Captain O. F. Peck’s Company (Orleans Southrons), 5th Regiment Louisiana Volunteers,* enlisted May10, 1861 at Camp Moore by Maj. Adams for the war, recorded on the Sept/Oct, 1861 muster roll as Absent, Hospital Nurse at Williamsburg remaining so through February, 1862, subsequently on the July/Aug, 1862 muster as Absent, On Division Guard, deserted to the enemy September, 1862, captured at Culpepper, Va. October 12, 1863, committed to Old Capitol Prison, Washington, D. C. October, 1863, released on Oath and sent North December 20, 1863, description on enlistment, 22 year old Mechanic, born in Boston, resident of N. Orleans, light complexion, light hair, blue eyes, 5’ 5-1/2”

* This company subsequently became Company F, 5th Regiment Louisiana Infantry
