I suppose decades ago somebody might have figured out the true historical significance of the man the headstone belonged to and requisitioned it as a souvenir. If that's what happened I hope they didn't do a little digging and steal his hook too. Now that would have been a souvenir. In any event, I would think this would be a good one for the SCV to get involved with and get him a new marker. Or, if the marker is sunk, under the auspices of a local or state historical society and proper authority maybe do a little probing to see if it can be recovered. Let them know what we have come up with here, and maybe they would jump on board.... (Probably wouldn't go over to well too try to walk around the cemetery solo, with shovel and pry bar in hand....)

This is really excellent work Rebecca. Thanks for letting us know what you found. How interesting. This whole mystery we unfolded on this board goes to show what sharing tidbits of data can do to facilitate a little tag-teaming to flesh out what became of these guys. Turns out Cobb was one of the longest-lived of the more-notorious guerrillas -- I had always more or less assumed he met an early demise given that fairly massive 1860's notoriety and his seeming disappearance. Cobb did indeed reinvent himself. And then he lived to be a very old man.
