Was at the Ag Museum in Jackson earlier today and there are 2 letters from Jesse to different people, one dated late Aug 1862, the other early Sept 1862, from the Camp of Instruction at Brookhaven. Jesse was from Lawrence Co and one sign in the museum tells of his 21st Miss service. Part of the farm display and an old house there were his before the war.
He tells in the letters of orders to go to Ritchmont (Richmond) which would be with the 21st. He did not make it, as he perished on the trip.
Anyone have any info on when he left the 7th or joined the 21st? Just curious.
Tried to get copies of the letter, but could only find what looked like a student working, and he said to call back during the week. Also there were some of Jesse's clothes, what looked like war time trousers and shirt. Would love to get patterns off of them. The trousers had rounded flaps on the pockets, not the normal squared off ones.
