Vicksburg Prisoner Exchange

My gg grandfather, Nathan Greer, a member of the 48th Tenn, Ninth Brigade, was taken prisoner at Ft.Donelson and imprisoned for about 6 months in Camp Dopuglas, Chicago, IL. He was exchanged in the group in late Sept. of 1862 in or near Vicksburg. Where can I find a record of this exchange; in a Vicksburg newspaper or on a list? He was very ill and may have died when he arrived in Vicksburg. I would also be curious how to find out if he was admitted to a hospital near Jackson or elsewhere. Did the Jackson papers carry these prisoners names? I wonder if Mississippi's CSA kept records about these prisoner exchanges too. We would like to know if he even arrived alive.
