Thank you immensely. My sources so far say he died in Sept. of 1862 but atleast he made it home. Maybe he ate a good meal in Vicksburg too. I am awating records. I will add the info you have given me to his file. All we have so far are the Maury-Hickman co. Histories and the Camp Douglas Prison record. Why do you reckon it says Aug. 1, 1862? I can't make out the word before that date. Do you think perhaps he was given a medical release from Camp Douglas in August or did they all leave together? If you find out the name of the boat they returned on or anything else, I'd love to know. I will look at the Lauderdale Co., MS site.
