I agree that this Choctaw unit is probably not the Pierce's Bn I am looking for.

I came up with this: 2nd Rgt Miss first organized about 12 May 1862 as a Bn of 7 Cos and designated Gordon's Bn Miss Cav. This Bn shortly increased to a Rgt and designated the 42nd Miss Cav by order of Gen Armstrong. Early in 1864 it was again designated the 2nd Rgt. It was also known as the 42nd Inf Rgt but never came into existence as such.

The bloodlines of some of these units are as difficult to trace as some branches of my family tree!
