Yes, the Jasper Grays had an Irish influence. I'll get back to you later in more detail, but a Catholic mission to the Choctaw Indians in Paulding attracted a number of Irish settlers -- enough so that a local area was called "Irish Town." The Grays' first captain, James J. Shannon, was the son of an Irish immigrant. However, the 1860 census lists only 89 county residents as having been born in Ireland.
