Re: Going Home
In Response To: Going Home ()

In one of the Confederate Veteran magazines, several years ago, there was a diary of Lt. John Malone, Co. I, 29th Mississippi of his journey home to Hernando, MS after the surrender of the Army of Tennessee at Greensboro, NC. He left Greensboro Apr. 26, 1865 and arrived in Hernando June 20, having walked a total of 904 miles (except riding on train from Oakland, MS to Hernando.) Interestingly, he did not come a direct route, but went south thru SC, Washington, Ga., thru Tuscaloosa, Ala, West Point, MS, avoiding all large towns.
