Co C. 8th Miss Cav had 11 members from Beat 7 Pontotoc Co., MS. I checked at CWSSS and it list the 8th Miss Cav as being organized long after the roll dtd 20 Feb 1864 was taken. Could this 8th Miss Cav be a different unit? CWSSS states, "8th Cavalry Regiment was formed in July, 1864, by consolidating the six-company 19th Battalion Mississippi Cavalry and four companies raised behind Federal lines."

With the beat system within a county, how do you go about finding what geographical area a beat covers?
