Re: Colonel William Harry Bishop

Jamie,

Thanks. There is so much misinformation out there and it can really be frustrating when some folks (one of whom I mentioned previously) just take some snippet of info and run with it, or even worse, it seems they just make stuff up to fill in gaps. When I wrote my book about the McGavock Cemetery I couldn't believe how much factual info was out there and how it conflicted with what had been talked about and generally accepted for decades. Marcellus Cuppett is a perfect example. He is the civilian buried at the east end of the cemetery next to the Texans. For years he was just commonly said to be an ex-slave when in actuality he was the brother of the man, George Cuppett, who led the burial team which dug up the soldiers from their initial burial places and re-buried them at Carnton. Marcellus simply died in the midst of the re-burials and was also buried in the cemetery.

If I ever run across a photo of Bishop you'll be among the first to know.

Eric
