Do you have census information for 1850 or 1860? County and state. Members of his household, ages etc.? That would be helpful. Do you have a birth date, birth place. It is difficult to be certain without that information. I see three W. J. Lees in the Soldiers and Sailors System, but without the basic vital statistics determining if any of them are your ancestor would only be guessing.
