Terrel Bryant enlisted as a Private July 5, 1865 at Camp Jackson, Florida in (New) Company C**, 8th Mississippi Infantry, reported absent, in hospital on the Jan/Feb 1863 muster, paid November 2, 1863 for Commutation of Rations for the period December 23,1862 to January 22, 1863, present at the April 9, 1864 muster, paid December 31, 1864, last recorded present at the Mar/Apri 1864 muster, [Company C was stationed near Dalton, Georgia on the date of this muster, believe May 5, there are no further company muster rolls in the records]

8th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry

8th Infantry Regiment was organized at Enterprize, Mississippi, during the spring of 1861. Many of its members were from Jones, Wilkinson, and Clarke counties. The unit served in Florida and Mississippi, then was assigned to General J.K. Jackson's, Gist's, and Lowry's Brigade, Army of Tennessee. It participated in the campaigns of the army from Murfreesboro to Atlanta, was with Hood in Tennessee, and saw action in North Carolina. This regiment lost forty-seven percent of the 282 at Murfreesboro and twenty-three percent of the 375 at Chickamauga. In December, 1863, it totalled 287 men and 169 arms. Its casualties at the Battle of Atlanta were 13 killed, 71 wounded, and 3 missing, and few surrendered on April 26, 1865. The field officers were Colonels G.C. Chandler, Guilford G. Flynt, and John C. Wilkinson; Lieutenant Colonels James T. Gates, Aden McNeill, and John F. Smith; and Majors Andrew E. Moody, George F. Peek, and William Watkins.

Company, in the Eighth Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers,
commanded by Colonel G. G. Flynt, called into the service of the
Confederate States in the Provisional Army, under the provisions
of the Act of Congress passed, by orders of the President, Febru-
ary —, 1861 by General A. S. Johnston from October 18, 1861
(date of this muster) for their unexpired term, unless sooner dis-
charged. . . .
