Re: Pvt. James E. Ballard, Co. A

In my new book ALSO FOR GLORY- The Pettigrew - Trimble Charge at Gettysburg, I show Private James E. Ballard, Co A 11th Mississippi as having been killed at Gettysburg July 3 during the Pettigrew - Trimble assault. In my breakdown of the soldiers in Company A of the regiment, his name does not appear as one of the 13 who made it as far as the Bryan Barn with Lt. Billy Peel. As you probably know, the 11th took many casualties from Union artillery fire as they exposed themselves on the knoll just before the Emmittsburg Road. They became victims of "horizon fire" there. Good luck with your efforts. You can contact me for the full story of the 11th Mississippi advancde that day at ernscave@aol.com
