It would be easier to correct an error in the Declaration of Independence. Over a century ago commissioners from each Southern state were invited to submit papers to be included in these service files. However, documents not not of wartime origin were all politely declined.

If I'm not mistaken, Confederate records were compiled under an act of Congress. For that reason I suspect it would take an act of Congress to review and correct them. No, I'm not kidding.
