Thanks for the info. I presume that since they were wounded pretty severly they were in some form of field hospital environment set up the Yankees. And I also presume that they probably had an open trench that was utilized each day as men died. Either way I am sure there was no attempt to record names and burial locations for Confederates, not even the location of the mass burials. The VA is almost impossible to deal with. They want proof that the body wasn't marked or taken home. They say that just because the CSR shows died in hospital that doesn't provide enough proof for them to issue a memorial marker. THe thing is, I have obtained markers in the last 6 months with no additional "proof". One was the same incident...wounded at Corinth and died at Iuka a month or more later. Now this new one is an issue with not enough proof. I guess I will have to get my US Senator/Congressman involved to get some satisfaction.
