I know that this thread is pretty ancient, but just to note, I recently realized that Fred Cox, in his excellent "Tippah County Confederates" site, inadvertently combined the roster of the Second Battalion Mississippi State Troops Cavalry Reserves (Montgomery's) into the roster for the "Second Mississippi State Cavalry" (Smith's/Lowery's). Two totally different units with two totally different missions.

Yes, any "2nd Mississippi Cavalry" is confusing.
