My great great grandfather was from Miss & in the civil war. I have 4 of his civil war records & they are confusing. Can anyone help me understand? They say he was in Co H, 14th Miss Inf from 7 May 1862 (entered from Neshoba Co) until 9 Apr 1865. Bottom on each record states that "the 14th and reorganized to the 40th." I've tried googling these units & can't get an answer to why or how or when this all happened. I'm doing genealogy and would like to write a paragraph about him and his war time & battles. Thanks for any help in advance.
