Re: The First Vicksburg Campaign

Danny,
I have looked through the reports, till I am blind. I can not believe I went by one which mentioned Bridges. Bridges was wounded at Corinth and returned to duty the 27th of December, only to be placed on leave again. This was probably his first assignment. I did find a Union report that mentions a skirmish with Forrest Cavalry on the 19th.

The horses of the 27th were jaded at Thompson Station and the 27th fought as Infantry. Maybe they did ride 300 miles in 15 days. We know Forrest was in Tennessee on the 19th from reports. This could have been the 27th still in Mississippi. This helps, a lot.

Because of the rain and the high water, this was not good Cavalry Country, but the reports on Waul's Legion are good so there must have been some high ground.

The Union reports discredit any Confederate action, so the reports are not very descriptive. I will keep looking.
