I am trying to locate my relative Dr. William M May, Pike County, MS, and his Confederate service. I see a William May on a list of Co A 1st Battalion of Cavalry MS State Troops listed as a private from Simpson County. Does anyone have any sources as to locating medical staff, surgeons, or hospital stewards? He doesn't appear as a doctor or surgeon on any listing that I have found. I do not know if he served as a doctor or as a solider. His grave in China Grove Cemetery is marked with Confederate service however, there is no proof that he served in Co. E, 16 MS Infantry, and that service belongs to another William May, not to Dr. William M. May. Could anyone provide any suggestions for me? Thanks.
