May is mentioned briefly in Luke Ward Conerly's book of Pike Co., MS, history, but without reference to any Confederate military service; this is significant, because Conerly documented most of the CS veterans from Pike Co. I have also been unable to find Wm. M. May among the service records of CS officers, where many surgeons' records are filed. -- Jim H.
