I am searching for information on my Great G. Grandfather, Oscar Smith, who, per family legend, died in the Civil War.

I’m not sure when or where he was born but he married Mary M. Crosby who was on the 1850 census roll with her parents, Leonard and Margaret Crosby, in Scott County, Mississippi. I’ve found no trace of Oscar and Mary on the 1860 census but Mary shows back up on the Smith County, MS 1870 census living next to her brother, A.J. Crosby, with 5 children: Ellen b. 1857; Rebecca b. 1859; Elizabeth b. 1860; Jefferson 1862; and, my Great Grandmother, Martha Jane "Mattie" Smith b. 1864. She is on the 1880 Simpson County, Census and then on the 1900 Hinds County Census. I’ve not been able to located her after 1900 so assume she died prior to 1910.
