Re: 37TH MISS. INF. REG. KIAs Correction
In Response To: Re: 37TH MISS. INF. REG. KIAs ()

Gentlemen,

I apologize for replying before I had completely reviewed the records. The men buried at Resaca were killed in the action on May 9, 1864 before the Battle of May 14-15, 1864. They were not a part of the movement from Dalton to Resaca. Canty was at Resaca on May 9th and held off an attack that day by forces coming from the west.

Now for the real corrections.

I again went to the Resaca Confederate Cemetery today.

The men listed are all in fact buried there and the one man whose stone is broken is A. W. McGill Co. B 37th Miss.
Isaac Land and Sergt S. G. Gilmore are properly marked. However, on the cemetery listing Richmond Baines is listed as B. Baynes.

There are two additional men listed from the 37th Miss.

They are listed as follows:

Corp. J R 37th Miss. He is buried next to McGill who is next to Baynes, next to "unknown" (Actually now identified as J. L. Spurlock 48th Miss.), next to Isaac Land, and next to Sgt. S. G. Gilmore.

The other man is identified as Col. Jones 37th Miss. (I have not been able to identify this man).

I took photos of all the Mississippi markers if you need them. Sorry for the mixup.
