Thank you for your correction. Yes, I refer to the action on May 9, 1864, as the "First Battle of Resaca". Canty's brigade was on its way to Dalton to join the rest of the forces when word was received of McPherson's movement toward Snake Creek Gap and Canty's brigade was told to hold at Resaca. Being out-numbered and out-gunned (muskets versus repeating rifles) Canty's brigade was able to demonstrate just enough to make McPherson cautious and allowed time for Johnston to show up with the rest of the Army and thus the battle on May 14-15.

I would love to have photos of the Mississippi markers if you are willing to share them.
