Don't know if you have looked at this man or not. Locations may not precisely jive with your man.
W.J. James enlisted in Co. F. 17th Tenn. Inf. (CSA), first at Camp Harris in Franklin County, May 18, 1861. The company was in state service at the time. Most men came from Marshall County. The company, including James, reenlisted on Aug. 15, 1861, at Cumberland Gap, when the regiment was accepted into Confederate service. At some point this man applied for a pension from the state of Tennessee, application number S13043. He applied from Gibson, TN. If you think this may be your man you can obtain a copy of his application from the Tennessee State Library and Archives.
